September 16th 2006, Spirit Of Adventure, Guadelupe Island, Yellowfin Tuna, Good Freinds, This Folks is Long range fishing.
Our trip starts out from H&M Landing in San Diego California at 11:00 a.m 9-15-06 on board the Spirit Of Adventure, Captain, the Infamous and famous and most succesful Mike Keating.
After a 24hr run down the coast in Mexican Waters aprox 245 miles South we arrived at Guadelupe Islands,
at aprox 11:00a.m Saturday the 16th my first Tuna was hooked up, the fight was on and what a fight it was, aprox 30minutes later I won that battle, 65lbs of Yellowfin Tuna came to color, the gaf was set and aprox 65lbs of yellowfin tuna lay on the deck, my God, this fish was a champion , pound for pound he kicked my ass.....lol.
My good freind James Romero was the 2nd fisherman to get hooked up, I looked over at him with a smile and a Yea Baaaaaaby, no words could explain the jubilation in James expression that soon turned to a look of amazement and pain....lol, this fish was kicking his ass.....lol, James however was also Victorious in his battle, his fight from start to finish was aprox 40 minutes.
I took a 45 min break to take some pictures, I couldn't hold the camera still enough to get a shot, my hands were still shaking from the 35 minute battle with Charlie.
The action was speratic all day with fish coming on the boat from 60-130lbs, my 2nd fish for the day weighed in at 78.6 lbs, again I'm amazed at the shear power and determination of these fish, unbelievable.
As the day came to an end we all got ready for dinner, Chicken enchiladas that were the size of burritos hit the tables and disapeared as fast as they showed up,I think we all worked up quite the appetite, Dan is one heck of a cook, he followed those up with Strawberry or cookies & cream ice cream or both if you wanted.
Later that evening we fished for live squid in hopes of Sunday morning getting a few Yellow tail, I wished I had a video camera, watching the squid coming over the rail squirting streams of water as far as 10ft was hillarious, it was more than amusing to see everyone dodging and weaving trying not to get nailed by the streams of water, it was very funny to watch.
Sunday morning came fast, with a big bowl of Cornflakes and bannana in my stomach I was ready for battle, I decided to tie a dropper loop and go to the bottom for a possible yellowtail strike.
I went over to the bait reciever, hooked a medium size squid through the tail and dropped him over the side, no sooner did it hit the bottom I was on, this fish felt big, I looked over my shoulder to ask if anyone had not caught a fish Dan the shooter said I haven't so I handed my rig over to him, 30 minutes later a 36lb yellow tail showed it's color, shortly after the fish was landed, I know it was 36 lbs, when I got home I put him on my wifes bathroom scale.....lol.
